Questions about the bay of islands boat cruise
Where does the cruise/trip depart from?
“The Rock” Bay of Islands Overnight Cruise departs from the Paihia Wharf, Bay of Islands. The tender “Climax” pictured to the right will meet you at the wharf.
How long will it take to drive to Bay of Islands from Auckland?
It is 269km from Auckland and takes approximately three and half hours to drive.
What time do we depart/return?
We depart at 5pm & return between 3 - 4pm the following day. (However early & late in the season we may depart earlier to allow enough sunlight hours for activities so please confirm when booking.)
Do you depart everyday?
We typically depart on a Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. During peak times we depart daily, so please email and ask if you have a particular day in mind.
What should I bring on the cruise?
If you are able to leave suitcases/rucksacks at your accommodation this is best. Bring a small overnight bag, towel, swim wear, toiletries, spare clothing. You need to bring a packed lunch for the following day, this can easily be purchased in Paihia from the local shops.
Is there safe parking to leave my car?
There is no purpose built lockup in Paihia available, we recommend our guests park in the large pay and display acrpark ($8 per 24 hrs) opposite the police station, which is only a 3 minute walk to the wharf for departure
What happens if the weather is really bad?
If it is terrible weather on the day of departure, we have the latest forecasts available. However as we don't depart until 5pm it is the following days weather we are more concerned with. This is the day where we are doing most of our beach activities. If you are concerned give us a call at the office and we will let you know what is happening.
Q. Are there buses we can catch to the Bay of Islands?
