Caring for the Bay of Islands.

We hope you enjoy your cruise with us. We believe in protecting the beautiful environment of the Bay of Islands and want to ensure that your children and grandchildren can visit and enjoy it too. To this end we’ve developed an environmental plan and welcome your support for this initiative. 

Most of our guests wish to help so we invite you to join with us by enjoying this cruise and understanding our environmental policy.

• We are reducing our demand for electricity from our petrol run generator by using a wind generator and installing solar panel lights where-ever possible. In the future we hope to move to larger more efficient solar panels and wind generators.
• We are reducing our waste by giving you the opportunity to recycle your rubbish. Please use the appropriate bins and if possible crush your cans and plastic bottles.
• We are reducing our waste by buying in bulk and purchasing our vegetables from suppliers who offer environmentally friendly packaging options in returnable containers where possible.
• We do not print unnecessary emails and recycle paper locally.
• We are conserving water by using saltwater to flush our toilets and ask you to help us minimise our water use by turning off taps you are not using and keep your showers brief. We will be back in the saltwater first thing in the morning anyway.
• We are reducing our noise pollution by keeping our speakers all inside the vessel and where possible angling speakers to reduce outside noise. The generator is turned off at midnight to reduce noise pollution for other boats and nearby residents. We hope you will help us by lowering your voice to a whisper at this time.
• We would like to offer you the opportunity to learn about our local environment. We will try to inform you about the local wildlife. As well as pointing out where the Department of Conservation and the local community are trying to regenerate the islands and their surrounding wildlife, both in the water and above it.
